From the Fraction

This work is an extension of my previous video piece, Screened Scenery. While reviewing the photographs I had taken over time, I discovered several images in which landscapes were reflected on the mirror-like exterior walls of buildings. Such reflections are typically what we call "virtual images." If that is the case, then I have no choice but to paint the original landscape—the "real image"—that gave rise to these reflections.

The real landscape, which should have been continuous with the ground beneath my feet, proved to be far more difficult to depict than I had expected. Through this process, I came to realize just how challenging it is to grasp what we call a "real image."
